Big Meadow

Organically Grown Americana
        from Salida, Colorado

About the band

Big Meadow is based in Salida, Colorado and features a blend of Americana, alternative folk and hard driving Traditional music.  The band formed in 2007 and features four musicians who synergistically blend their multi-instrument talents and vocal harmonies to create what entertainment writer Aloysius Bruder called, "...a mellifluence of
dazzle-your-tattered-socks mountain music."

The core of Big Meadow’s music comes from the husband and wife team of Matthew and Andrea Coen.  The band combines Matthew's singing and songwriting with Andrea's diverse insturmentation on fiddle, viola and banjo.  The rythmm section features the talents of local musicians Aaron Robbins and Dave Bokel.
The band peppers their live performances with covers that are drawn from the b-sides of indie acts such as The Decemberist, Wilco and Alexi Murdoch.  The band also incorporates a handful of more recognizable tunes from artists the likes of Michael Franti and Ben Harper.

Band instrumentation includes:
Matthew Coen on lead vocals, guitar, didgeridoo and fiddlesticks; Andrea Coen on fiddle, banjo, vocals and viola; Aaron Robbins on bass and vocals, and Dave Bokel on drums and vocals.
Big Meadow has been playing in south-central Colorado since 2007 under the name 'Local Honey'.  Due to a naming conflict with another 'Local Honey' we made the switch to Big Meadow in 2015.  The name change is still a little new to us but we hope it makes it easier for folks trying to track us down in a web-centric world.  Best of luck to our doppelgangers in Ohio, use the name well!!!
Thanks for visiting our website - we would love to play for your next big event, or to see you at a show!
